Chile has cancelled the hosting of two major international summits, because of the severe social unrest that is continuing to rock the country. Replacement venues are being thought for next month's APAC trade summit and the U.N climate summit in December. President Pinera sacked half of his cabinet this week in a bid to end mass demonstrations against the inequality and austerity.

Brazil's justice ministry has opened an inquiry into claims linking president Jair Bolsonaro to the assassination of a popular Rio De Janeiro politician Marielle Franco. A TV report has alleged one of the murder suspects was given permission to enter into Mr.Bolsonaro's gated community on the day of killing. Mr.Bolsonaro has angrily denied being at home at the time.

Firefighters are battling a new wildfire in the suburb of Los Angeles that erupted earlier on Wednesday. The blaze in California Simi Valley tripled in size in two hours, aided by strong winds, very low humidity and drought.

The federal reserve has cut the U.S interest rate for a third time this year. The move by the U.S central bank is seen as its latest attempt to help the economy ride out to trade war with China without slipping into a recession.

At least two people have been killed in the Iraqi capital Baghdad during the latest anti-government protests. The security forces have reported to fire tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters, as they tried to enter the heavily guarded green zone.

Twitter has said it is to stop all political advertising. The company's chief of executive Jack Dorsey said the policy would come into effect worldwide later next month. It comes at a time when another social media giant Facebook is coming for growing criticism over its policy of allowing candidates to lie in their campaign messaging.
