The South Korean army has been mobilized in the region near Daegu, which has been worst hit by corona virus, as the country reports a sharp rise in the number of people contracting the illness. Soldiers are disinfecting large parts of Daegu city. Laura Becca is our correspondent in Seoul. The majority of cases have centered on the worst hit area of Daegu where this church was based. And we're told around 80% of church members know how the virus, 3000 people are said to be showing symptoms of corona virus. So authorities are warning there could be a spike, could be a rise and of more cases in the coming days. 10 patients are critically ill, another 16 are seriously ill in hospital and 17 people so far have died. Health officials on the West Coast of the United States have confirmed three more unexplained corona virus cases, an indication that the virus could be spreading within the community. None of the patients had any contact with a known case, nor any history of travel to countries badly affected by the outbreak.

The United States and the Taliban are said to sign a deal in Qatar to start a new peace process in Afghanistan. The agreement involves a phase withdrawal of US troops in return for security guarantees from the Taliban. Here's Lyse Doucet. This is an historic moment, a significant step toward ending America's longest war. Taliban commanders send messages to their supporters boast of winning the war and defeating the American empire. This agreement will test their pledge to seek peace and to prevent Afghanistan from again becoming a haven for extremist groups. US officials insist their troop pullout hinges on the Taliban keeping their word. If they do, the first contingent of some 5000 soldiers out of about 13000 now serving in Afghanistan will leave over the next several months.

Several actresses have walked out of the French film awards ceremony, the Cesars after the best director prize was given to Roman Polanski, who's been accused of historic sexual abuse. Protesters tried to storm the theater where the event was being held. Hugh Schofield reports from Paris. Announcement of the award to Roman Polanski was greeted with some applause, but mainly awkwardness. Everyone at the ceremony recognizes him as one of the world's top directors, but in the post Me Too world, a man still wanted in the US on statutory rape charges dating from 1977 and against two new historic allegations of abuse also away. He's not regarded as a figure to celebrate. The actress Adele Haenel who recently wrote of being abused as a 12-year-old by another film director walked out of the ceremony shouting shame.
