VOA常速英语:As Americans Gather to Give Thanks, Trump Calls for Unity(翻译)
Thousands of people lined streets in Manhattan to watch marching bands, performers and massive balloons at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.
Millions of Americans travel great distances to celebrate the holiday to gather with family. In Afghanistan, US soldiers and their natal partners shared in the feast.
“Being here, I mean you just being with all the new people that, you know, you’ve come all the way with. You know, being able to be here with trainees and advisers in Afghan. They’re coming here for dinner tonight. You know, I think it’s such a great, maxed opportunity outside being with your family on this holiday. ”
In South Korea, US troops had turkey, mash potatoes and stuffing.
“It’s weird, it’s my first time ever spending Thanksgiving away from my home. But honestly, this spread out here is so nice, all the food and they do a really great job making everybody feel kind of like, kind at home, you know. So, it’s really nice.”
Millions of turkeys were served on dinner tables across America. But at least 2 birds got lucky. That’s thanks to an annual pardon by the US president.
“Tot, I hear by ‘pardon you’ from the Thanksgiving table.”
The birds name Tater and Tot were spared by President Obama and will now live a peaceful life on a Virginia farm.
