This wine capital is earning a reputation for something very different. In a discrete building in the city center, an experiment is under way to prevent radicalization. Psychologists, legal experts and imams are working with at-risk youngsters and their families.

The CAPRI program is a partnership between the local Muslim federation and city hall when other municipalities are thinking of following.

“For youngsters and the families, the fact we are doing this program with the Muslim community is positive.It shows we are not mixing up Islam with radicalization. ”

After three major terrorist attacks over 2 years, deradicalization experiments are mushrooming around France.Bordeaux aims to fight the problem at its roots.

The government has launched a new campaign to combat terrorist propaganda on social media——the subject of this recent French movie, Heaven Will Wait.

But some experts believe the strongly secular nation must give Islam a bigger role in the search for solutions.

“My guess is that if you want to have an efficient way in dealing with radicalization in terms of jihadism,you have to introduce — plainly, obviously, publicly — religion.”

The CAPRI team in Bordeaux isn’t waiting for miracles.Radicalization can be swift.Stitching that social links will take time.
