Alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump declared that Washington and Beijing agreed ‘not repeat the mistakes of the past’ in dealing with Pyongyang, which over the years has managed to rapidly advance its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.

Trump earlier said excellent progress including on North Korea was made in his talk with the Chinese leader.“And I do believe there is a solution to that as you do.”

At a formal welcome outside the Great Hall of People, the two leaders walked side by side on a red carpet.A military band played the national anthems of the two countries, and ceremonial cannon fire from the Tiananmen Square saluted Trump. An exuberant crowd of school children waved American and Chinese flags.The talks between Trump and Xi also dealt with trade, a touchy subject,since the US president has long complained about the trade between imbalance China and the United States.Trump said the US trade deficit with China is shockingly hundreds billion of dollars annually, and that past administration’s allowed it to get so far out of kilter.
