VOA常速英语:Using Tech to Save World’s Most Endangered Species in Tanzania

Elephant are among the most endangered animals in the world.A result of ivory-poaching which has caused the population to drop 20% between 2006 and 2015.But now in the Grumeti Game Reserve in Tanzania elephant roam freely and safely as everyone is outfitted with a tracking collar.Rangers in the operation room depend on the Earth Ranger Tech Platform to follow each elephant.In its early stages of development the platform was named the Domain Awareness System or DASS.
大象是世界上严重濒危的动物之一。象牙偷猎导致大象数量在2006年到2015年间下降了20%。但是现在，在坦桑尼亚的格鲁米提野生动物保护区，大象可以自由地、安全地漫步，因为每个人都有一个追踪项圈。手术室里的护林员依靠地球护林员技术平台跟踪每头大象。在开发的早期阶段，该平台被命名为领域感知系统(Domain Awareness System，简称DASS)。

What we do with DASS is we monitor all our assets,every collared animal and we also input data which in turn helps us make decisions and plan operations.When threats are detected the system alerts the rangers who are following the data.Earth Ranger allows you to, it takes you from being from being reactive and always behind and always after an animal has been killed or ranger has been injured or killed,to being proactive to really being able to anticipate and get ahead of the problem.
我们用DASS监控我们所有的资产，所有的动物我们也输入数据这些数据反过来帮助我们做决定和计划操作。当检测到威胁时，系统会向跟踪数据的管理员发出警报。“地球护林员”让你从被动的反应中走出来，与之前总是在动物被杀或者护林员受伤或者被杀之后不同，它将变得积极主动，真正能够预测和解决问题。

Earth Ranger not only saves the lives of the elephants, it also protects the staff on the reserve from poachers.Constant and fast communication with the control room makes the rangers tasks’ easier and safer and it helps them use of their resources more efficiently and effectively.The developers hope Earth Ranger will provide conservationists in the region the network they need to work together and save Africa’s wildlife.
