VOA常速英语:A Women-Only Village in Northern Syria is Home to Needy Families

This village currently hosts five families and many more are expected to join,but what sets this village apart from any other is that all the residents living here are women and children.

The idea was to build a village where women can live in a free way together, like in a communal way, in a way like, very close to the nature,where women can build their own economy, where women can where women can organize their life, like in a, in a free and autonomous way.
初衷就是建一个村庄，妇女可以一起自由地生活，就像社区那样，非常接近自然，妇女可以建立自己的经济，可以以一种自由而自主的方式组织她们的生活。

Nojeen, a volunteer from Germany helps with this project.

She says some of the women’s husbands were killed fighting the Islamic state,but she hopes that this village can give the widows and their families a new purpose to life.

Badria Darwish’s husband was killed in battle.

Not being able to financially-support her family, Darwish decided to move to Jinwar.

I came here, because I cannot financially-support my children.

Initially I wasn’t sure about coming, but I was not able to take care of them.

I came to live here with my children because life is difficult. I cannot afford it.

I have 10 children and I don’t want to feel guilty for not providing for them.

Amira says she appreciates the opportunity to live in Jinwar with her family.

My husband died. I have five children. We didn’t own a house, and my kids are young.

I have no one to work and support my children.

We heard that they provide people with houses here. We asked for a house and said we want to move to here.

The project is funded and organized by three local organizations, which plan to build schools, clinics and even a hospital in Jinwar.
