This is Politics and Prose Bookstore and Coffee House, one of the most renowned in the US Capital.Since opening nearly 35 years ago it has become a cultural hub drawing tourists, literature lovers, famed authors and powerful politicians.So Politics and Prose is just one of these cultural institutions here in Washington D.C.It’s really important and it’s thriving.It’s very good because it gets interesting people who care about literature and generally intellectual books to get together and it creates a community.

Publishers compete to organize a reading event for their authors at Politics and Prose while writers dream up presenting their work here. It’s hosted Bill and Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama but it’s also drawn authors with Bob Pastor books like J.K. Rowling of the Harry Potter series and British Indian Novelist Salman Rushdie.On this day young author Jaime Susskind spoke about the impact of technology on politics.He’s been coming here for decades. Even before he published his own book.

This is a legendary book shop in Washington D.C. When I was an intern in Capitol Hill here 10 years ago,I used to come here and wander around and spend all of my very limited income and so to come back as an author is really exciting.The staff is known for being well-informed and quick to help and some visitors say online buying does not match the experience of shopping in a bookstore like this one.

Former Washington Post reporters Bradley Graham and Lisa Muscadine purchased the bookstore in 2011 even with the growing competition between digital and paper books.The owners have managed to expand their business and open three more branches in the city.Coming into a bookstore is fun because you don’t go to Amazon to browse.
