The One With The Embryos

本集简介：

The guys' chicken is becoming a rooster. Phoebe undergoes the procedure to implant embryos in her uterus; the pressure is high as Frank Jr. and Alice can only afford the procedure once. Monica and Rachel bet that they know Chandler and Joey better than Chandler and Joey know them; Ross writes the questions (game show style) and eventually the stakes are raised: If the girls win, the chick and the duck have to go. If the guys win, they get the girls' apartment.

小鸡渐渐长成公鸡，热衷打鸣。
菲比接受将受精卵植入子宫的手术；
由于费用高昂，小弗兰克和爱丽丝仅能负担一次手术，所以菲比感觉压力巨大。

故事梗概

Joey 和 Chandler 的宠物 chick 如今已经长大成rooster 了，
是公鸡都要打鸣的。
一天早晨，
天刚刚破晓．
Rachel和Monica 就被woken up by the continuous crows．
四人决定做游戏打赌
(bet)，
Ross主持游戏，
中间一度打成平手
(tie)。
但最后，
几人的赌注蛮得与宠物有关，
如果 Rachel 两人获胜，
宠物要被处理掉；
反之，如果 Joey 两人获胜，
则双方switch the apartments。
问题的内容包括古代史、
文学、
六人的个人情况
(Personal questions)等。

Ross: The test is ready.

All: Yeah! Yes! (They all right into the living room, all excited.)

Ross: Okay, each team will answer ten questions. The first team that answers the most questions wins. Okay, the categories are, Fears and Pet Peeves, Ancient History, Literature, and It's All Relative. Now, the coin toss to see who goes first. (He flips the coin and they all watch it hit the table and stop. Then they all look up at him, to see who goes first.) Okay, somebody call it this time.

All: Oh yeah!

(Ross flips the coin again.)

Rachel: Tails!

Ross: It抯 heads. (The guys celebrate.) Gentlemen, pick your category.

Chandler: Fears and Pet Peeves.

Ross: What is Monica's biggest pet peeve?

Joey: Animals dressed as humans.

Ross: That's correct. Ladies?

Monica: Same category?

讲解

所谓的　pet peeve是something about which one frequently complains，或者　a particular personal vexation　(个人的烦恼)，或者是a minor annoyance
that can instill extreme frustration in an individual。例如：
My pet peeve is that neighbor's cat running through my herb garden．(我最讨厌的就是邻居的猫总是在我的花园中跑来跑去。)

一般来讲，each person has several pet peeves that aggravate them more
than the average person．对同一件事，同一情形下，别人may not react as

negatively or at all。

笔者查阅的资料中，举了一个例子：“许多人在驾驶的时候，并不用转向灯 (turn signals)，这种行为对于有些司机来讲无所谓，但是如果有人have a pet peeve of someone not using their turn signals 就会变得非常的不安(agitated and upset)。”

再举几个例子，例如：

·People throwing cigarette butts on the ground (有人在地上扔烟头)；

·People throwing cigarette butts out of car windows (有人向车窗外面

扔烟头)；

·Smoke odor on clothes (衣服上的烟味)；

·People who smoke while driving (开车时吸烟)；

·Leaving the toilet seat up after using the bathroom (用完马桶后不盖

盖儿)；

Strnking up the bathroom a fter a bowel movement and not using the air
freshener (大便后弄得卫生间臭气熏天，不用空气清新剂)；

·Having a give O'clock shadOW／beard／mustache (早上刮干净后到下午

五点又长出的胡子茬)；
·Leaving hair messy and uncombed (头发很乱，但不梳理)；
·Nostril hairs that need to be clipped (鼻毛很长，该剪不剪)；
·Leaving cosmetics all over the bathroom sink (卫生间的水槽上到处都是化妆品)

Spending excessive time trying on variotus outfits in an attempt to

achieve fashion perfection (为了时尚，花太多的时间不停的试衣服);
·Hugging with too much make-up，which leaves some make--up on the

other person's clothing (拥抱时，将脸上浓妆弄到别人的衣服上)；

·Kissing with lipstick，which leaves lipstick marks on the recipient’s

face (涂着口红吻别人，结果在别人脸上留下口红印)；
