本集简介：

While getting his nails done, Chandler runs into Janice--newly divorced and not willing to let Chandler get away. Chandler invents a story about his company transferring him to Yemen. Although Janice believes him, he's not home free yet... she won't leave his side until he's on the plane and taking off. Monica obsesses about an electrical switch that apparently doesn't do anything; after tests, blueprints, and demolition work, she finally gives up. Ross meets some of Emily's friends and gets invited to play rugby; not wanting to lose face, he insists on playing. When they play too rough despite Emily's secret request that they go easy on him, she helps Ross inflict some pain, too, by giving him pointers on their vulnerabilities.

故事梗概

Ross　和 Emily 约会的路上，偶遇 Enily 的几个旧友。
Ross 先是以为这帮家伙是抢劫犯，弄清楚后有点尴尬。继而，为打开话匣子，Ross 问他们是否踢足球(soccet，继而又用英国口音说tootball)，对方回答说他们玩 rugby，就是英式橄榄球。几人问Ross是否愿意玩，Emily 随口说，Ross 是美国人，一定不会玩的．因为在美国根本没有 rugby；
Ross 却说：“1776年
(美国爆发独立战争)前，我们还没有 treedom
(自由)
呢”;
意思就是，
谁说我不会玩的?
不信，试试看。于是，Emily 的朋友们约他第二天下午2点钟见。

Joey: Nope. (To Ross) Man look at this! Ross, I can't believe you said you'd play rugby. I mean look how brutal this is!
Ross: Hey, I can handle it! All right?
Rachel: Please, Ross, you-you got hurt playing badminton with my dad.
Ross: That's 'Cause--'Cause you're mom's dog kept-kept looking at me.
Joey: (pointing to the TV) Okay, Ross, look-look-look-look, look right here. That's called a scrum, okay? It's kinda like a huddle.
Ross: And is a hum, kinda like a scruddle?
Joey: Ross! (Laughs) They're gonna kill you!
Phoebe: Well, why are you doing this anyway?

：赶家觉得Ross玩英式橄榄球简直是开玩笑；为了备战，Ross通过看电视了解英式橄榄球的一些打法。Joey给Ross讲，那个动作叫scrum(密集争球），有点像huddle(碰头商讨技术)，Ross的确感受到了压力，却开玩笑说那就是scruddle啦，他把两个词合到了一起(scrum huddle)。scrum是英式橄榄球当中特有的一种争球方式，可以表述成对阵争球或两队并列争球。The purpose of the scrum is to restart play quickly，safely and fairly，after a minor infringement or a stoppage．(当比赛出现小的犯规或因为队员受伤等原因中断的时候，就需要密集争球)。

橄榄球分为英式(Rugby Union)、澳式(Rugby League or Australianfootball)、美式(football)和加拿大式(Canadian football)四种。澳式橄榄球联盟AFL(Australian Football League；通常简称为League)为澳大利亚最受欢迎的体育项目之一；美式橄榄球联盟NFL(National FootballLeague)是美国最受欢迎的体育项目。每年NFL的决赛称为“超级碗”(Super bow1)赛事，它的电视转播也是全美收视率最高的节目。

英式橄榄球中的进攻队员要通过对方的阵线，通过防守线；前锋要利用速度和体重，把对方阵线撞开，突破防线得分；后卫要利用速度，穿插对方空挡，绕过对方得分；团体力量包括战术的能力的运用也十分重要。
美国人的soccer是指足球，英国以及世界上很多国家的人都叫足球为football，我们的足球的确是foot和ball，好不容易这么对应，但在美国英语中，他们指的football并不指圆形足球，而是指椭圆形(oval)的橄榄球。英国人称橄榄球是rugby或rugby football(英式橄榄球)。但是，rugby通常被认为有点血腥，非常暴力。因而，大家都劝Ross不要去玩，不要去逞能。
