本集简介：

The One On The Last Night

Chandler tries to get Joey to accept some money so he'll be able to get by for a few months without a roommate. Joey won't take it, but Chandler invents a game called "Cups" and lets Joey win the money. Later, Joey teaches Ross to play Cups, and loses all the money to him. While packing on Rachel's last night in the apartment, Phoebe's misguided advice leads Monica and Rachel to fighting. Ross doesn't want to help with the packing, so he says he has to take care of Ben. Since Monica can see into his apartment, he makes a "fake Ben" to fool her.

钱德竭力想在不伤害乔伊的尊严的前提下送他一些钱，以助他应付独立租房的开支。乔伊起初拒受，于是钱德发明了“夺杯”的游戏，乔伊欢天喜地赢了许多钱。之后，乔伊教罗斯玩同样的游戏，输了个干净。
帮瑞秋打包行李时，菲比为排遣离别的伤感气氛，鼓励莫妮卡与瑞秋多想想对方的缺点，结果事与愿违，两人争吵起来。
罗斯不想参与收拾行李，所以借口要照顾班。他的公寓就在莫妮卡的对面，莫妮卡透过窗户可以洞悉这边的动静，于是罗斯假造了一个“班”来骗她。

6-06　缺钱的Joey

故事梗概

Chandler要搬出去和Monica住到一起了，这闺房子的房租、电费以及其他账单以后就都要由Joey自己来负责了．可Joey好像没有能力来负担这一切，他又不愿接受Chandler的帮助。害的Chandler只好想尽办法让Joey来心安理得地拿自己给他的钱。

Chandler: That's our phone number. Now look, I know I kinda sprung this whole me moving out on thing, so why don't I just--why don't I just cover you for a while?

Joey: No-no! No way! Joey Tribbiani does not take charity……anymore.

Chandler: It's not charity, Joe?

Joey: No! Forget it! Okay---mean thanks, but I'm done taking money from you. All right, I can take of myself. Now, what's next? Come on.

Chandler: Okay uh, here's the electric bill. (Hands it to him.)

Joey: This is how much we pay for electric?!!!

Chandler: Uh, yeah.

(Joey runs over and shuts off the lights.)

Chandler: So, we'll do the rest of the bills later then?

Chandler突然搬离和Joey一起住的公寓，这对Joey来说可以算个打击了，因为Joey一直受着Chandler照顾，尤其是经济上的照顾。Chandler怕Joey一时应付不来这些随之而来的账单，就说：Why don’t I just cover you for a while?(为什么不让我再多付一段时间的账单呢?)这里面，Chandler用的词是cover。cover除了有“覆盖”(to hide or protect sth．)的意思以外还有“使某人不受麻烦的困扰”(to protect sb．against future problems)的意思。如：Count the cash in the drawer twice just to cover yourself．(把抽屉里的钱数两遍以防以后有麻烦。)更通俗点说就是“罩着”某人。Chandler想先罩着Joey一段时间，可Joey就是不让。

接下来说说charity这个词。Ioey不想接受Chandler的charity。charity 这里是指给某人或机构钱、物或为他们花一定时间(the act of giving money，goods or time to)。在剧中当然是指钱了。charity本身也是基督教神学中的一个术语(term)，是三个神学美德(theological virtues)中的一个。

这三个神学美德包括：信念(faith)、希望(hope)和charity(博爱)。

而charity(博爱)是最重要的。在这里charity，就不能简单翻译为“慈善”，而应是“博爱”之意。它是指人的灵魂的最终完善(ultimate perfection)，因为这是对上帝本质的最好体现(reflect)和发扬(glorifV)。

博爱最极端的形式(the most extreme form)就是自我牺牲(selfsacrificial)。可见西方宗教中宣扬的就是charity，在西方charity发展得也很完善。后一个charity就是指慈善基金组织或慈善机构(charitable foundation or a corporation)。而charity还可以做女孩的名字(female given name)。可见在不同的场合charity有不同的意思，要注意区分。
