本集简介：
The One With The Video Tape

Monica and Chandler return from their honeymoon, having made friends with another couple on the flight home. Afterwards they discover that the phone number the couple gave them is wrong, and they begin to wonder if they didn't make a good impression. The gang ask Ross and Rachel how they got together the night she became pregnant. Rachel tells the story; when she says that Ross was the one to make the first move, an argument ensues. Ross announces that he can prove his side of the story, because he has the whole thing on video tape. Later, Ross (without Rachel) explains to Monica, Phoebe, Chandler and Joey what happened that night. In the form of flashbacks, we learn that Ross had been going through a sexual "dry spell" and Joey gave him help in the form of a seductive story to tell his date (Kristen), about back-packing in western Europe. It didn't go very well, so later Ross was practicing the story in front of a video camera. Rachel came in, and Ross forgot to turn off the camera. He and Rachel began talking about their relationship. One thing led to antoher, and they ended up having sex on tape. Ross shows the first few minutes of the tape and settles the argument.

Monica 和 Chandlen 蜜月归来，频频提起在回程中认识的另一对夫妇(couple)，他们非常兴奋地谈起那对夫妇，但是当众人要看看他们带什么礼物(gigts)时，他们却什么都拿不出来，可见很抠门(mean)呀。Monica和 Chandlen 想的就是赶快给那对夫妇打电话，然而按照号码打过去，结果发现那个号码是……

Phoebe: So how was thehoneymoon?

Monica: Oh, so much fun. Butthe best part is, we met this incredible couple on the way back.

Phoebe: That was the bestpart? (To Chandler)Good honeymooning tiger.

Monica: No, they were reallycool. They were on their honeymoon too!

Chandler: They're terrific, and they live righthere in the city.

在这一集的故事里我们学习一下incredible这个单词。很明显in-是一个前缀，表达否定含义，那么credible是什么意思呢?我们知道credit有“信誉，信用，信任”的意思，而后缀-able(-ible)有“使……能够，具备……能力”的含义，这样两个部分合起来就是“使……有信誉，使……信任”，自然就是“可信的，可靠的”意思。比如我们可以说：Thisis a credible story．(这个故事可信。)再比如我们可以讲我们制定的政策没有问题，可进也可退，是一个可靠的防御政策(acredible defence policy)。如果你又迟到了，老师问：“为什么又迟到了?(Why late again?)”，你胡乱地编个借口(excuse)。老师给你个台阶下(save your face)，可能就说：“你的借口勉强可信，回到座位上去吧。(It's abarely credible excuse．Go back to your seat．)”

下面我们再看一下incredible怎么用吧。前一段美国迪斯尼上映一部电影，名字就叫The Incredibles，我们把它译成《超人特工队》。因为这可不是一个普通的家庭，一家人全有特异功能，各有所长，你说是不是叫人“难以置信”呢?所以从电影的题目中就可见电影的内容啦。

为了让大家更清楚这个词的用法，我们再举个例子。我年轻时做过一个梦，在梦里我娶了一个意中人(MissRight)为妻。后来你猜怎么着，我

现在的妻子和梦中的女孩长得一模一样。听完后，你不相信，你就可以说：

“那是我听过的最难以置信的巧合了。”
(That's the most incredible coincidence I've ever heard of．)

其实，incredible除了“不可相信，难以置信的”含义之外，还由此引申出“惊人的，奇妙的，好得难以置信的”这样的含义。举个例子来说，“她有一座极美的房子”，英文就可以说成：She has an incredible house．

最后揭开谜底吧。为什么Monica和Chandler打不通电话呢，因为他们在飞机上认识的一对夫妇分手时给了他们假的电话号码(fakenumber)。后来Monica和Chandler还互相责怪对方呢。
