With the ever growing number of graduates with a college diploma in China, competition on the job market has also gotten tougher and tougher over the years.

It is estimated there will be 6.8 million college graduates entering the job market in 2012, which is 200,000 more than this year. And according to a job prospect report by the education counseling company Mycos, China’s employment rate for college graduates rose 3.2% in 2009 reaching 91.2% in 2010. But that still means 1 out of every 10 college graduates won’t be able to land a job.

Facing a tough job market, college graduates, though mostly young and inexperienced, remain confident about their prospects.

A job seeker said, "I think the highlight of our generation is that we have confidence. Compared to previous generations, we are more foresightful and we have our own demands."

After a round of searching and interviewing, our maverick retains his optimism but is willing to admit job hunting is a little tougher than he expected.

A job seeker said, "I’m looking for a sales job. There are in fact many of them. But it’s difficult to find one that suits."

This is the overwhelming theme of this career fair and many others across China. 6.8 million college graduates are expected to enter the job market next year. The competition certainly looks tough, but there are just as many jobs available.

Availability is one thing, but suitability is another. An interviewer said, "Many job seekers have a lot of demands but are unwilling to start at the bottom.”

An interviewer said," We’re all a bit confused here because we didn’t achieve the planned hirings and people didn’t get jobs. My advice is before outlining all their demands, applicants should first show us what they can do and what experience they have.”

Analysts say this year has actually seen an increase in job posts available. Many companies are even taking the initiative by giving introductory sessions on campuses across the country. To those who are unable to land a job despite the opportunities, the best advice, is to aim lower now in order to shoot higher in the future.
