名人教英文：和身体相关的用语（2）

上周介绍了几个涉及头和手的惯用语，其实跟身体部位有关的惯用语还有很多，这次我谈的惯用语主要关于头脸、心腹和足部。

lose face的意思跟中文的“丢脸”一样：he refused to admit making a mistake because he did not want to lose face.

face-off意谓“对峙”或“对决”，例如：there was a face-off between alan leong and donald tsang during the 2007 chief executive election.

吴宇森在荷李活拍摄的《夺面双雄》，讲述一个警察和一个罪犯换面，两人展开正邪对决，英文片名是face/off，一语双关。

face the music字面上似乎并非坏事，实际上是反语，意即接受批评：the minister had to face the music for his policy failure.

take it on the chin字面义乃“头部捱拳”，意思是勇于承担不好的事情（譬如责难）。例如：the investment adviser took it on his chin after giving wrong advice to his clients.
