政府成立关爱基金,向城中富豪募捐,有人或会讽刺说:the government is going cap in hand to the billionaires to solicit donations to the community care fund.
另一个和帽子有关的惯用语是throw one's hat into the ring。此语源自拳击,ring即擂台阵,throw one's hat into the ring的意思就是宣布参加竞赛。 于是舆论再次猜测:范太会否throw her hat into the ring,宣布竞选特首?
我们说someone is overdressed,即是说这人穿得太隆重了,例如:someone is overdressed if he wears a tuxedo to a casual dinner。 例如:you should dress down for this casual occasion.
