Tethys consists of three main components,a disposable cartridge that forms a circuit with an Arduino processor that has exposed chlorides of nanotubes.The core device having a processor with a Bluetooth extension 9-volt battery and a slot to insert the disposable cartridge.And lastly a smartphone that connects over Bluetooth to display results.
特提斯构造由三个主要部分组成,一次性墨盒形成电路, 由一个能使氯化物处于纳米管作用下的开源电路处理器构成;核心装置是由一个具有9伏电压电池的蓝牙扩展设备和能插入一次性墨盒处理器的接入槽组成;最后是一台通过蓝牙连接以显示结果的智能手机。
11-year-old Gitanjali Rao from Lone Tree Colorado wanted to do something about the problem of lead in drinking water.

Through following the Flint, Michigan, water crisis for about two years,I realized that I wanted to create a device to help my parents with fast lead and water testing and the resins of Flint and even other places like around the world.

Rao named her device Tethys after the Greek Goddess of fresh water and says it takes just a few seconds to determine whether the water is safe.

What you do is first dip a disposable cartridge which can easily be removed and attached to the core device in the water you wish to test.Once you do that, that’s basically the whole manual part, then you just pull out an app on your phone and check your status and um it looks like the water in this container is safe.

It took her five months to make Tethys from start to finish.

My first couple times when I was doing my experimentation and tests, I did fail so many time and it was frustrating but I knew that it was just a learning experience and I could definitely develop my device where thereby doing even more testsand getting advice from my mentor as well, so, never be afraid to try.

Rao plans to put most of the 25,000 prize money back into a project with the hope of making Tethys commercially available.
