“Eat little food” 可不是 “只吃一点食物”！

为了搞明白这个翻译，
我们首先要学习 little 这个词的一些习惯用法

一、作副词，修饰动词、形容词时

Little在使用时常常带有否定的意思。
我们用它来表示并不如我们想象或预料中那样多。

（=not much/almost nothing 不多，几乎是没有的）

类似的词还有few，只不过little和不可数名词搭配而few与可数名词搭配。

二、作形容词，修饰名词时

little作形容词时，它的意思和small一样。

I know a little restaurant not far from here.
我知道离这不远有一家小餐馆。

那什么时候用Little，什么时候用small?

它们意思非常相似，但也有略微的区别。
在单指尺寸大小时，我们用small
而little除此之外，还包含有积极的情绪在里面（尤其在有一些美化的词搭配时）

He’s a small baby. (He’s smaller than average.比平均值小)

He’s a lovely little baby. (He’s lovely and small.他小得很可爱)

There’s a wonderful little café a the end of the street. (比用 There’s a wonderful small café at the end of the street.更恰当。)
