Britain, the current chair of the G7, is to convene an urgent meeting of health ministers from the group of leading economic powers on Monday to discuss how to respond to the new Omicron strain of coronavirus.

The President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa has criticized those nations that have imposed travel bans since the discovery of the Omicron coronavirus variant in his country last week.

Mr Ramaphosa accused them of what he termed Afrophobia and called them to urgently reverse their decisions.
