The authorities in the Ukrainian capital Kiev say fighting has broken out in the streets hours after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russian forces were preparing to storm the city.

U.S. media say President Zelenskyy has turned down an American offer to evacuate him from Kiev, saying he needed more ammunition, not a ride.

Fighting has been continuing around several other Ukrainian cities as the war entered its third day.
