A 72-hour ceasefire has come into effect in Sudan following 2 days of negotiations.

The US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces had agreed to the pause in fighting from midnight.

Mr. Blinken has been in touch with Arab countries who have relations longstanding relations with one or both parties urging them to use their leverage.
